Citizenship test

Everyone wishing to acquire a German passport must pass a citizenship test.

The citizenship test has been published by the Interior Ministry in Berlin. There are 300 questions concerning Germany, and 10 related to each individual federal state. The concept is that 30 questions are selected from the main catalog, and 3 from the corresponding federal state catalog (always relating to the federal state in which the foreigner lives). From these questions, 17 are to be answered correctly. And the test can be simply repeated until 17 answers have been correctly answered.

To take the date on the desired date, the application must be received by ISL by application deadline. Applications that arrive after the application deadline can only be considered in exceptional cases. The participants must directly pay a test fee of € 25.00. The test fee can be paid in cash or with an ec – card. The participant is required to bring a suitable document for identification (passport, driver's license, etc.) The completed test documents are sent to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF – Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge). BAMF sends the participant a certificate after evaluating the test. Good luck to everyone taking the test!
